Here are a few things to consider when choosing an ESD garment:
Intended Use:

ˇYour Organization's Specs
ˇThe Sensitivity of your Product:
     Is a static shield enough?
     Is individual grounding required?
     Is monitoring ground desired?
ˇThe working environment

Is a lightweight fabric desired?  Higher carbon content; better for warm environs.

Is a medium-weight garment desired?  Better resistance to hot solder and abrasive surfaces.

Do specifications for your organization require the garment and the individual to be grounded for complete static control? Is a static-shielding garment sufficient for your application? Also, determine whether a lightweight or medium-weight fabric would be ideal for your working environment.

Tech Wear offers a wide array of fabric color choices. Specific colors are available in each fabric choice below. Finally, you will need to consider which garment style is preferred. Please note; the ECX-500 and NylostatTM material is only available in certain styles. Available style selections are noted at the end of each fabric description.

ECX-500
Blue ECX-500 APPLICATION: Offered solely in our ECONO$HIELDTM garment, the ECX-500 is recommended for use in applications where it is not necessary to ground the garment. Recommended for use in static shielding applications only, Tech Wear's exclusive ECX-500 material is guaranteed to maintain its usefulness and effectiveness for a minimum of 100 washes or two years.
Note:  For groundable garments, the OFX-100 or IVX-400 should be selected.

TECHNICAL DATA: With a fabric content of 98% polyester and 2% BASF ResistatTM fiber, knit in a grid pattern, the ECX-500 has a fabric weight of 3 oz. per square yard. Surface resistivity is 106 ohms per square, with only slight deterioration noticed after 50 launderings, (to maximum of 109). BASF ResistantTM fiber is a carbon suffused monofilament nylon conductive at 104 and is non-flaking and non-sloughing. Static decay rate is 5000 volts to 0 in less than 0.01 second.

The ECX-500 meets federal standard FR requirements for polyester fabrics and will not crock or bleed off onto other surfaces.

COLOR SELECTION: ECX-500 fabric is available in Diamond Blue, and White.

STYLE SELECTION: ECX-500 is available in our Econoshield style garment.

NYLOSTATTM

NASA Blue Nylostat

APPLICATION: Easy to care for and wrinkle resistant, NYLOSTATTM is a cotton and polyester blend that is a popular choice for heavy soil and solder splash protection. Designed for use in static shielding applications only, NYLOSTATTM is soil-resin finished to offer "easy care" characteristics to garments made from this fabric. Such properties as wrinkle resistance in use and "no iron" properties when washed and tumble dried, minimize the maintenance effort for the worker.
For garments requiring ESD static control, Tech Wear recommends the OFX-100 or IVX-400 fabric.

TECHNICAL DATA: Consisting of 65% polyester, 34% cotton and 1% carbon, woven in a grid pattern, NYLOSTATTM has a fabric weight of 5 oz. per square yard. Surface resistivity of the fabric should be less than 10"ohms/unit square. Electrical resistivity influences the accumulation of electrostatic charge on a fabric. Specimens conditioned at 50% relative humidity and 70°F are tested for resistance to passage of electrical current.

SLEEVE TERMINATION CHOICES
Standard Sleeve Termination

In many Tech Wear garments, you'll have three choices of sleeve termination. Our standard sleeve termination is a hemmed sleeve with 1 female and 2 male 4mm snaps (1/8"). The female connects to either of the male snaps to adjust to proper fit. Make sure sleeves on personal clothing do not extend below the sleeve's hemline or static-control can be compromised.

Tech Wear's Exclusive ESD Knit Cuffs

Our Exclusive ESD Knit Cuff is 73% textured polyester with 23% conductive yarn knit into the cuff in a grid pattern to assure electrical continuity throughout the cuff and seam joining to the sleeve. The comfort level of this cuff is truly superior, and the stretch to fit one-size-fits all is practical.

Key Style

We now offer the Key Style sleeve termination. This choice is similar to the standard sleeve, with an additional 1/8" 4mm "female" snap on sleeve end facing inward for attachment to a wrist strap, and male snaps on the hip pockets for attachment to a ground cord. This option can be ordered in OFX-100 and IVX-400 fabrics in your choice of garment style, and is stocked in the LOJ-23Key (Traditional Blue OFX-100 Jacket).

PRESCRIBED HOME LAUNDERING PROCESS
Wash garments in cold, cool or warm water with liquid laundry detergent such as: Liquid Tide, Liquid Lemon Dash, Liquid Cheer, Oxydol, etc.

Do not use liquid fabric softeners or laundry detergents that contain added fabric softeners or bleach.

In the case of severe soil or grease, stronger liquid detergents can be used if they do not contain chlorine bleach.

Hang-dry or tumble-dry garment at lowest temperature setting on home dryer.  Do not allow garment to be exposed to dryer heat longer than necessary, as the carbon-suffused mono-filament nylon is sensitive to heat. Garment will dry very quickly.
